After picking up from your accommodation and reaching Agrigento, the tour will begin at 10:00 with a guided tour of the Valle of the Temples *, the largest archaeological park in the world (1300 hectares in size), declared a UNESCO heritage site in 1997. The Valle of the Temples is characterized by the remains of twelve Doric temples, which the main ones are the Temple of Juno-Era Lacinia (450 BC), the Temple of Concordia (430 BC), the Temple of Demeter (480 BC) and the Temple of Zeus (480 BC). In the archaeological park there are also three sanctuaries, necropolis, hydraulic works, fortifications; part of a Hellenistic Roman quarter built on a Greek plan; two important meeting places: the Lower Agora and the Upper Agora; an Olympeion and a Bouleuterion (council room) from the Roman era on a Greek plan. Inside the archaeological park it will be possible to optionally visit the Regional Archaeological Museum "Pietro Griffo" which exhibits, in 18 rooms and in two distinct sections, 5688 finds, ordered according to a chronological and topographical criterion. Free lunch not included. In the afternoon we will visit the Scala dei Turchi, a rocky wall (cliff) that rises steeply over the sea, which over time has become a tourist attraction both for the singularity of the cliff, white in color and with peculiar shapes, and for popularity. from the novels starring Commissioner Montalbano, written by the empedoclinic writer Andrea Camilleri. As an alternative to visiting the Scala dei Turchi it will be possible to take a walk on foot to the historic center of Agrigento, dating back to the medieval age of the 11th and 15th centuries and where significant examples of Arab-Norman art are kept, including in particular the cathedral of San Gerlando, the Palazzo Steri where the seminary was held, the bishop's palace, the Basilica of Santa Maria dei Greci and the monumental complex of Santo Spirito and the gates of the city walls. 18:00 Fixed time for the transfer to your accomodation.
